Captain Beverly Mossberg

Born in Georgia, Captain Beverly Rhiannon Mossberg was placed into foster care shortly after birth. She bounced around from one foster home to the next until about the age of eight when she was placed with the Mossbergs, Gretchen and Felix. Though they never legally adopted her, Beverly used their last name until she had it legally changed.

At the age of twelve, her foster father taught her how to shoot. She became quite adept at using firearms. Naturally, she enlisted in the Marines where her sharpshooting skills came to the attention of her Commanding Officer, Major Terberon. Major Terberon was instrumental in enlisting Beverly as a sniper.

Her skills proved worthy to the task.

But one fateful night during the Gulf War changed Captain Mossberg and her crew. The incident followed them throughout their lives to the present day.

Sergeant Lyman Colter

Colt to his friends and colleagues, the man is an enigma wrapped in a dilemma. Tough and just a little scary, Colt doesn’t take crap from anyone, especially not from Bev’s 12 year old daughter, Jazmine. Ruggedly handsome, he has chosen to live an isolated life as a survivalist, living off the land.

He, too, is a native Georgian, just one of the few things he and Bev have in common. Colt suffered abuse at the hands of his father, mostly to protect his younger brother, James.

Just like Bev, he, too, suffers PTSD as a result of the life-altering event in Iraq.

Sedona Armstrong

Born to a drug-addled mother, Sedona came into this world already addicted to crack. Lacking imagination – or maternal instinct for that matter – her mother names her Sedona because she was in Sedona, Arizona at the time of Sedona’s birth. Shortly after the birth of her child, Sedona’s mother abandons the baby to her own mother’s care.

Nana Armstrong raised Sedona as though she were her own, giving her a loving, disciplined home, replete with encouragement.

Not someone to think small, Sedona has big ambitions and doesn’t allow anything to stand in her way. Including relationships.

When her path crosses that of Bev’s, she aligns her fate with the woman who can handle a gun, hoping it is her best chance to get home to Washington, DC.

Jaz

Jazmine Mallory Mossberg is 12 years old with a chip on each shoulder. She has little patience for her crazy mother and even less understanding of her. A typical pre-teen with pre-teen angst, she undermines her mother’s every decision, every move.

The more Jaz learns about her mother, the angrier she becomes. Mostly, she is angry about her father leaving and blames her mother for his choice to do so.

Circumstances transpire during this journey which open Jaz’s eyes to just how fortunate she is to have a mother like Bev.

Michael

Michael Mossberg, no middle name, an intelligent, sensitive 9 year old, worships the quicksand his mother walks on. But even he is taken aback upon learning aspects of Bev’s life about which he was not aware.

Though his hero is knocked from her pedestal, he still sees her as the competent loving woman she is beneath the tough façade.

When his sister’s life is threatened, Michael finds he has inherited some of his mother’s strength.

The above images have been altered. They are the best representation of my perception of the characters I could possibly create.
